2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Can Tow More than Its Competitors

2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Can Tow More than Its Competitors

The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is coming off a complete redesign in 2019 that somehow improved upon greatness. The 1500 offers a luxurious cabin, comfortable seats for all passengers, and a smooth ride. However, the full-size pickup truck class features tough competition, and it is hard to come in at the top. But for 2020, the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel does just that.

New for 2020: EcoDiesel Engine Capabilities

For 2020, a diesel engine was introduced to the Ram 1500 lineup. The EcoDiesel engine offers gains in fuel economy, towing, and payload while not detracting from all the other great things about the Ram 1500. The 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6 engine is an 8-speed automatic with E-shifter; it is available on any of the seven Ram 1500 model variations: Tradesman, Big Horn, Sport, Rebel, Laramie, Longhorn, and Limited. The EcoDiesel provides outstanding fuel economy. While most pickup trucks are going to produce around 18.0 L/100km for city driving and 14.2 L/100km for highway driving, the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel can almost half the fuel cost. The EcoDiesel engine is rated at an astounding 10.5 L/100km for city driving and 7.3 L/100km for highway driving. For a full-size pickup truck, the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel offers fuel economy ratings rarely seen even by cars half its size.

EcoDiesel vs The Competition

But while the fuel economy is very impressive, many truck buyers turn to the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel for another reason—the hauling capabilities. The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel provides 480 lb-ft max torque and 5,783 kg max towing. The max payload is 1,043 kg. This is more than any other Ram 1500 has ever been able to tow and haul, making the 2020 model the most capable Ram 1500 ever produced. For comparison, the GMC Sierra (5,669 kg) the Chevrolet Silverado (5,669 kg), the Toyota Tundra (4626 kg), and the Nissan Titan (4381 kg) are all incapable of meeting the Ram 1500’s towing capability, even with their largest and most powerful engines.

How the EcoDiesel Provides a Smooth Ride

To increase its towing dominance, Ram offers an optional air suspension that includes a self-leveling feature that keeps the 1500’s ride even smoother while towing. The blind-spot monitoring system also covers the length of the trailer while towing. Another unique feature of the 1500 is the multifunction tailgate, which folds down like a normal tailgate but also has barn-door, side-opening functionality as well.

The Award-Winning Ram 1500

The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel can be found in Calgary, as well as across Canada and North America. It has been recognized with numerous awards, demonstrating its dominance over other pickups in its class. As such, the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel was named the Best Pickup in Canada for 2020 by Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC). The Laramie Longhorn and Limited models won the “Luxury Car of the Year” Award by cars.com. Auto123.com named the 2020 Ram 1500 the “2020 Pickup of the Year,” and Edmunds recognized it with 2020 Edmunds Top Rated Truck Award. These are just a few of the awards focused on the Ram’s quality construction and reliability. But perhaps most fitting is the 2020 Green Truck of the Year Award awarded to the 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel by Green Car Journal. Anyone shopping for a capable yet fuel-efficient truck needs to check out the 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel first.
